Between Us is an Australian short film that combines the genres of drama and action. This short film focuses on an 11-year-old Japanese-Australian boy, Souta who just lost his father to suicide. Focusing on themes of death and grief, Between Us delves into the different stages of grief.

Between Us draws inspiration from Studio Ghibli's aesthetic and a sense of whimsical, childlike wonder. These styles combine to evoke a sombre mood, reflecting the story of a child navigating the complexities of grief.

The chosen typography, Baby Doll, compliments the narrative, mirroring the perspective and innocence of the young protagonist. This handwritten font enhances the designs exaggerating his young innocence.

Furthermore, hand-drawn elements of flowers, hearts and stars were created with inspiration from children's drawings. These elements add a sense of innocence and playfulness, reinforcing the whimsical tone of the design while creating a nostalgic and approachable aesthetic.
